Since 1888, De Beers has been involved in all aspects of the diamond business. From its mining operations across Africa, and most recently Canada, the company produces about 35 per cent of the world’s supply of rough diamonds.
De Beers has been active in Canada for more than 50 years, growing from a small group of geologists in the field to having multiple offices and operations across the country. De Beers has two producing mines, one in care and maintenance, and a targeted exploration strategy within Canada.
De Beers’ Canadian leadership team, supported by colleagues across the country, believes that community participation in employment and business opportunities in all stages of the mineral development process from exploration, evaluation, mine development, production and closure is essential.
De Beers Canada has had a varied and interesting past that reflects the history of diamond exploration in Canada. See a snapshot of those significant events that helped shape our company and our operations.
